JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Fitness Manager to join our team and help members achieve their fitness goals. The ideal candidate will have a passion for exercise, excellent communication skills, an outgoing personality and an ability to manage many areas concurrently.

As the Fitness Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the gym, fitness studios, and health programming to ensure a safe, high quality experience for members. You will drive member retention and revenue growth through innovative group exercise scheduling and gym floor activities. Additionally you will handle health and safety compliance, overseeing equipment maintenance and cleanliness standards.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Primary objectives for the Fitness Manager will be

  • To take responsibility for all aspects of the daily operation of the gym and studio facilities.

  • To ensure all Health and Safety procedures and responsibilities are carried out at all times, with a particular focus on equipment maintenance, routine checks and cleanliness.

  • To promote excellence in customer service and motivate people to enjoy exercise through good communications and motivational skills.

  • To ensure all activities are designed with the aim of developing and growing  the membership base.

The Fitness Manager will focus day to day on the following tasks

  • To respond to any and all Health and Safety issues within the exercising areas.

  • To ensure that the financial objectives of the gym and studios are achieved and the appropriate financial systems and procedures are implemented.

  • To achieve maximum levels of participation in Group Exercise classes and gym usage

  • Recruit, coordinate and support the training and development of group exercise instructors, fitness instructors and Personal Trainers  ensuring a skilled, motivated, and high quality team is in place to deliver engaging fitness provision.

  • Deliver gym inductions, fitness consultations, and exercise programmes where required.

  • The Fitness Manager will be expected to deliver a minimum of four group exercise classes per week, setting the standard for high quality, engaging sessions that enhance member participation, retention, and overall customer experience.

  • Review, plan, and actively promote the group exercise timetable, including advertising classes through appropriate channels to maximise participation, attendance, and customer engagement.

  • Coordinate maintenance activities and ensure all equipment remains safe, operational, and compliant.

  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of quality assurance systems and operational procedures.

  • To produce monthly performance records, statistics, targets and reports

  • To identify and assess the feasibility of new activities which the Centre could provide.

  • To assist in the marketing and publicity of all activities and events such as quarterly group exercise launch weekends, and to ensure all staff are kept informed of the Centre’s activities and special events.

  • To act as relief Duty Manager for the Leisure Centre Management Team on a shift rota system, during opening hours of the Centre.

  • Undertake additional duties as required to support the achievement of centre objectives.

THE CANDIDATE

Qualifications

The post holder will hold a minimum of a Level two Gym Instructor qualification. It is also desirable that the successful candidate holds an Exercise to Music qualification and or current Les Mills instructor certifications with experience of teaching a wide variety of group exercise classes. Candidates who do not currently hold these qualifications should be willing to undertake relevant training immediately upon successful application.

As the successful candidate you must be flexible, reliable, and enjoy working as part of a team, and be willing to work variable hours, including some evenings and weekends.

  • Must be able to work from various locations as and when required.

DBS

The position of Fitness Manager is classed as a regulated post and therefore requires a DBS Disclosure. Where the individual does not hold already hold a DBS Disclosure, it will be necessary for the post holder to be submitted for a DBS check.
