ACCESSIBILITY GUIDELINES

ACCESSIBILITY COMMITMENT

We want everyone who visits LeisureCentre centres’ and or associated web pages to feel welcome and find the experience rewarding.

To enable all visitors to have a positive experience and to be able to participate fully we have created the following commitment to address disability in its broadest sense, including people with

  • Impaired vision

  • Motor coordination difficulties

  • Cognitive impairments and/or learning difficulties 

  • Deafness or impaired hearing

This is part of our commitment to provide equal opportunities to all.

At LeisureCentre we pride ourselves on offering our customers a wide range of accessible facilities, we are continually looking at ways in which we can improve accessibility to provide inclusive areas and activities for all users.

SOME OF THE WAYS WE ENSURE OUR CENTRES ARE ACCESSIBLE ARE LISTED BELOW:

Accessible Venue

  • Full DDA compliance 

  • IFI Accredited

  • Disabled parking

  • Step free access into the building

  • Wheelchair friendly areas and low level reception desks

  • Hearing loops installed at reception

  • Lifts to make all floors accessible

  • Automatic doors

  • Pool hoists and lifts

  • Accessible toilets, showers and changing facilities

  • Non slip floors

Accessible Equipment

Through our adherence to the Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) we ensure that our gyms are as open and wide-reaching as possible. This includes inclusion of IFI accredited equipment within our gyms which is purchased through our partnership with one of the leading fitness equipment manufacturers, Precor.

The Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) is a programme that supports the fitness industry to become more inclusive, catering for the needs of disabled and non-disabled people and raising physical participation levels.

Inclusive Activities

From Boccia sessions funded by our leisure grants, to disabled swimming sessions and our very own stroke rehabilitation sessions and GP referral schemes, LeisureCentre is committed to offering a variety of activities and initiatives to make physical activity accessible for all.

WEBSITE ACCESSIBILITY STANDARDS 

To help us make the website a positive space for all users where they feel welcome, we’ve been using DDA and W3C to ensure digital accessibility. We meet this criteria in the following ways:

Alternative Text

  • All appropriate images have been given alternative text so that reading devices can interpret them.

  • This includes: images, graphical representations of text (including symbols), image map regions, animations (e.g. animated GIFs), applets and programmatic objects, ascii art, frames, scripts, images used as list bullets, spacers, graphical buttons, sounds (played with or without user interaction), stand-alone audio files, audio tracks of video, and video

Colour Contrast
We have checked text and background colour combinations to ensure that information is clear to all users and ensure all contrast is sufficient that information is not referenced by colour alone. 

Layout and Navigation

  • We use style sheets to control layout and presentation to make them clearer for all users.

  • We currently divide large blocks of information into more manageable groups where natural and appropriate. 

  • We use navigation mechanisms in a consistent manner, so that users can navigate our website using keyboard controls and by mobile Clearly identify the target of each link.

  • Create a logical tabs to order through links, form controls, and object.

Whilst LeisureCentre strives to go above and beyond the accepted guidelines and standards for accessibility, it is not always possible to do so in all areas of the website. We are continually looking at ways that we can enhance user experience, and bring all areas of our website up to the same level of accessibility.
