Assistant Course Manager
Job description
Assistant Course Manager
Tilgate Forest Golf Centre
Full Time
Closing Date: 07/04/26
We have a brilliant opportunity for an Assistant Course Manager to join our Greenkeeping team at Tilgate Forest Golf Centre.
Based in the beautiful country park setting of Tilgate Forest, you’ll have previous greenkeeping or sports turf experience and understand what it takes to provide exceptional playing surfaces.
We’re looking for a Deputy Course Manager who wants to be a genuine partner in shaping the future of Tilgate — not just a second in command.
Tilgate Forest Golf Centre is entering a phase of investment, ecological stewardship and operational transformation. This is a rare opportunity to join a leadership team that values ideas, collaboration, and shared ownership as much as technical skill.
Lex Leisure is part of the Parkwood Group, meaning you’ll have plenty of opportunities to gain experience with our diverse and talented team that is responsible for our golf, leisure, outdoor activities and theatre locations.
Duties
Deputy manager for a team of Greenkeepers and Rangers
Managing and monitoring weekly, monthly and annual maintenance programmes and projects for our 18 hole golf course.
In addition to the above, you will help maintain the Toptracer driving range, workshops and general amenity areas including car parks, entrance/exit gates and access roads.
Support in coordinating the maintenance of machinery/equipment/irrigation & service contracts.
Supervise staff to ensure standards of work are maintained and tasks completed.
Security of the premises including keyholder duties and alarm response.
Joint planning and decision‐making on daily operations and long‐term strategy
Leading and motivating the team with clarity and consistency
Delivering high‐quality playing surfaces across all areas
Hands‐on involvement in mowing, spraying, irrigation, and renovation
Supporting ecological and woodland management
Coordinating machinery care and safe systems of work
Providing input during the upcoming drainage and irrigation upgrade programme
The Person
You’ll be someone who:
Enjoys working closely with a Course Manager and contributing ideas
Communicates openly, honestly, and constructively
Leads with calmness, fairness, and pride
Brings energy, ownership, and a positive influence to the team
Supports and mentors others
Thinks ahead, solves problems, and takes initiative
Wants to be part of a long‐term project, not just a job
You’ll have an interest in golf and a good understanding of the needs and wants of the golf consumer.
NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Sports Turf Maintenance is preferred.
Chemical Spraying qualifications are preferred.
Knowledge of the use and maintenance of modern greenkeeping machinery.
Knowledge of automated irrigation systems.
Knowledge of all health and safety legislation relating to greenkeeping equipment and also chemical and waste handling.
What can Lex Leisure offer you?
Competitive salary and generous bonus scheme.
Free use of Loyaltee Golf Courses, free gym membership for you and a nominated person/employee discount portal/company sick pay/career progression and more!
