Downham Health & Leisure Centre, the Uttlesford Leisure Centres and Willesden Leisure Centre

In line with the Healthy Communities Plans within Lewisham, Uttlesford and Brent. The role of the Healthy Communities Manager will be to enable an active and healthy community through effective partnership working and programme development and implementation within Downham Health & Leisure Centre, the Uttlesford Leisure Centres and Willesden Leisure Centre and across all of the district's local communities. Working closely with sites central teams and key stakeholders, this role will ensure the Healthy Communities service contributes to national and local outcomes, improving the health and wellbeing of local residents, reducing inequalities across priority demographics.

The Opportunity

  • To be responsible and accountable for implementing the Healthy Communities Plan for Lewisham, Uttlesford and Brent  in line with the Lewisham  Physical Activity Strategy, Uttlesford Health and Wellbeing Strategy and Brents Health and Wellbeing Strategy. Client outcomes and stakeholder priorities- building a strong, integrated service which identifies and meets the needs of the local communities

  • To prioritise partnership working, establishing and maintaining links with organisations locally, regionally and nationally and representing 1Life on the Lewisham Physical Activity Stakeholder group, Uttlesfords Health and Wellbeing board and Brent’s.

  • To work with the Health and Wellbeing team at the relevant local authorities to support the delivery of their Health and Wellbeing objectives

  • Engage with central and site teams to effectively embed the Healthy Communities service in line with best practice

  • Working with the health team on site at Lewisham and local practitioners within Uttlesford and Brent to  improve the health and wellbeing of local residents by identifying opportunities to add value to and provide exit routes from the GOP Referral and Steps to Health services

  • Increase local physical activity levels. driving footfall into the leisure centres and maintaining a focus on the contract’s member retention plan, maximising opportunities for the community to access Downham Health & Leisure Centre, the Uttlesford Leisure Centres and Willesden Leisure Centre, through new sporting programmes, health initiatives and community programming across all facilities

  • Increase local physical activity levels and reduce inequalities across under-represented priority groups; women & girls, older adults, BAME communities, people with disabilities, low socio-economic communities (IMD 1-3) and children & young people through new programmes delivered across local community venues

  • Ensure all pricing of programmes delivers value for money and accessibility for the customer.

  • Have a strong knowledge of social media and other basic marketing platforms to increase the company’s visibility within the local communities.

  • Effectively market programmes to local communities using national and local channels and networking within the local communities  to promote the benefits of physical activity and healthy lifestyles.

  • Ensuring all the Leisure Centres are accessible and inclusive for all communities

  • In line with Downham Celebrates, attend regular outreach events within the community and organise community events at Downham Health & Leisure Centre and on The Lower Fields to engage new communities

  • Attend regular outreach events within the relevant communities and organise community events, working locally with site teams to build up community outreach calendars.

  • Apply for and secure grant funding for intervention programmes to help increase accessibility within key target user groups.

  • Create and deliver a sport and community development plan to meet the needs of the local demographic profile

  • To be aware of and follow company policy with regard to the Staff handbook and Health and Safety guidelines

  • To work and utilise local site teams to deliver all objectives

  • Support Contract Manager to provide reports to IPS trustees and secure appropriate fuding.

  • To always be an ambassador for the brand

  • To undertake any other duties that may be required by 1Life.

  • Based out of Downham Leisure Centre but able and willing to travel to Brent and Uttlesford on a weekly basis or as required.
